Honoring Tan Kah Kee: Continuing the Timeless Legacy and Ethnic Brilliance丨传承一段“嘉”话，“庚”续民族光辉

我现在是在陕西延安的一个窑洞外，我身后的这张桌子，是延安十分常见的一种小石桌、你能想象在这里曾经举办过一场对中华民族产生深远影响的会餐吗？

I am nw outside a cave dwelling in Yan'an, Shaanxi. This little stone table behind me is a common sight in Yan'an. Can you imagine a dinner with profound influence on the Chinese nation was once held here?

这个窑洞，是毛泽东主席在延安杨家岭的旧居，1940年，爱国华侨陈嘉庚，率团先后访问了重庆和延安，那年的6月1日晚，毛泽东便在这里接见了陈嘉庚。

This cave was Chairman Mao Zedong's former residence in Yangjialing, Yan'an. In 1940, patriotic overseas Chinese leader Tan Kah Kee visited Chongqing and Yan'an with his delegation. On the evening of June 1st that year, Mao Zedong met him here

在第一站重庆，国民党专门列支了8万元盛情款待，在当时的中国，这些钱可以买800头牛，他感到如鲠在喉。但在延安，毛泽东的这顿饭，却让他差点落泪。

At the first stop in Chongqing, the Nationalist Party allocated 80,000 yuan for a grand reception. In China at that time, this money could buy 800 cows. He felt a knot in his throat. But in Yan'an, Mao Zedong's meal almost brought him to tears.

自那天起，在延安的每一天都深深触动着陈嘉庚，他见识到了一个朝气蓬勃、上下同心的社会。离开延安后，陈嘉庚积极向国内外宣传在延安的所见所闻。“中国的希望在延安！”这句话使正处于战火中的中国民众和南洋爱国华侨耳目一新，受到了极大鼓舞。

From that day on, every day in Yan'an deeply touched Tan Kah Kee. He witnessed a vibrant society united in purpose. After leaving Yan'an, he actively promoted what he saw and heard to audiences at home and abroad. "China's hope lies in Yan'an!" This statement was refreshing and greatly encouraged the Chinese people and patriotic overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia amid the war.

今年，是陈嘉庚诞辰150周年，他的一生，为维护国家民族利益，为祖国文化教育和公益事业，作出了巨大贡献。毛泽东曾为其题词：“华侨旗帜，民族光辉”。

This year marks the 150th anniversary of Tan Kah Kee's birth. Throughout his life, he made significant contributions to national and ethnic interests, as well as to cultural education and public welfare in China. Mao Zedong once inscribed for him: "The banner of overseas Chinese, the glory of the nation."

近年来，厦门大学嘉庚学院等高校组织学生前往延安开展研学活动，让学生更直观地了解嘉庚先生的伟大事迹和爱国情怀。 

In recent years, colleges such as Xiamen University Tan Kah Kee College have organized students to visit Yan'an for study activities, allowing them to gain a more direct understanding of Tan Kah Kee's great deeds and patriotic spirit.

雄关漫道真如铁，跨越雄关，正是因为我们有大公无私、坚强勇毅的领路人。回顾历史，“嘉庚精神”曾经激励和感召无数海内外侨胞关心祖国的前途命运，为祖国统一富强和民族振兴而团结奋斗。今天，“嘉庚精神”对于凝聚侨心侨力、实现中华民族伟大复兴仍然具有重大而深远的现实意义。

The road is as hard as iron, but crossing it is possible because we have selfless, strong, and brave leaders. Looking back at history, the "Tan Kah Kee Spirit" once inspired countless overseas Chinese to care about the fate of their motherland, to unite and fight for national unity, strength, and revival. Today, the "Tan Kah Kee Spirit" still holds significant and profound relevance in uniting the hearts and efforts of overseas Chinese for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
