公元前139年

In 139 BC,

张骞受汉武帝之命

on the order of Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty,

带领100多人的队伍第一次出使西域

Zhang Qian, leading a team of more than 100 people, 

行程一万多公里

began his first mission to the Western Regions.

他们在途中受尽折磨

During the journey of more than 10000 kilometers,

过着非人的生活

they suffered a lot.

 

历时十三年

After thirteen years,

最终只有两个人返回长安

only two of them returned to Chang'an alive,

从而开辟了

thus opening up the Silk Road

中西交流的丝绸之路

which connects China and the West.

三彩少年在他的背后的

褡裢上装着很多的商品

filled with goods on his back.

这恐怕有他从西域

In his bag,

带来的葡萄美酒

there may be grape wine and gems

还会有一些宝石

he brought from the Western Regions.

在他离开的时候

When he left Chang'an,

他又会把我们的

he must have brought

丝绸茶叶陶瓷

our silk, tea, and porcelain

带到遥远的西方

to the distant West.

 

在张骞那个时代

In Zhang Qian's time,

他们面对的是完全的未知

what they face is completely unknown.

可是他们依然是

毅然决然的走上了这条道路

But they still resolutely embark on the Silk Road.

Zhang Qian received the imperial edict

汉武帝的旨意出使西域

of being an envoy to the Western Regions,

拉开了轰轰烈烈的凿空之旅

and embarked on an epic journey across time and space.

这也是肖静选择在这里徒步的原因

This is why Xiao Jing chose to go on

今天他们要行进30公里

a 30-kilometer hike here today.

这条路既是成就了张骞

Zhang Qian made his accomplishment on this road.

也是成就了我们

So will we.

生不当五鼎食

If one cannot enjoy wealth and prosperity while alive,

死亦得五鼎烹

why should he be afraid of death in a cruel way?

没有人不怕死

No one is not afraid of death.

The difficulties we encounter

可能跟他的困难不一样

这里就是小雁塔

This is the Small Wild Goose Pagoda.

是古城西安的一个象征

It is a symbol of ancient Xi'an city.

那么它既是丝绸之路的起点

也是丝绸之路的终点

and the end of the Silk Road.

所以从这里出发

Zhang Qian set out from here

在这里又走回长安

and then walked back to Chang'an from here.
